Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine

From pleasure to performance, our aim is to provide the convenience of access to an equine specialist for the horse owners of Vancouver Island. We offer sports medicine and surgical services to support the horse industry at all levels from referring veterinarians to farriers and individual horses and clients.

COLIN SCRUTON, BVetMed MS MRCVS DipACVS

Colin grew up in the Comox Valley where he learned to ride showjumpers with Linda St. Michael and Peter Holmes. He graduated in 2000 from the Royal Veterinary College in London, England. Following that, he completed a large animal internship at Washington State University in Pullman. His next step was an equine surgical residency and master's degree at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Comparison of intra-articular drilling and diode laser treatment for arthrodesis of the distal tarsal joints in normal horses; and intra-articular pain management were the topics of his master's research. Colin became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in February 2005. After completing his residency, he stayed at CSU as faculty for 9 months running a surgery and lameness service. This was followed by a year of employment in a similar capacity at the University of Glasgow. Colin returned to Vancouver Island in April 2006 to develop and open a specialty surgery and sports medicine practice.
